College of Engineering

The College of Engineering at Knowledge University was established in 2009-2010. It offers a four-year bachelor’s degree programs in Petroleum Engineering and Environmental Engineering. The college has a team of highly qualified staff with years of academic and professional experience.

College’s Vision:
To be among the leading colleges in the region maintaining international standard and good reputation by sustaining a high quality of engineering educationand scientific research.

College’s Mission:
Prepare students to take leadership positions, powered by innovations to develop the region and the country.

The college works towards widening the horizon of engineering knowledge through scientific research and adapting diverse technologies to serve the local and regional needs. The core values of the college are integrity, fairness and transparency. We work towards improving quality of life for our community as well as for people across the country, and ultimately the world.

Since engineering labs are an integral part of the study, Knowledge University has a number of such labs equipped with all the necessary equipment to provide an actual hands-on experience for students.

Knowledge University successfully concluded its third annual Chess Tournament, a vibrant event held under the supervision of Khanzad Chess Club and organized in coordination with the university’s student committee. The tournament was overseen by Mr. Hakar Dilzar and drew the participation of over 70 students from various colleges and departments, showcasing a high level of skill and enthusiasm.

The event took place in the presence of the President of Knowledge University (Prof. Dr. Ahmed Dezaye) Deans, Academic & Administrative Staff, which aimed to promote strategic thinking, concentration, and friendly competition among students, witnessed intense rounds of chess matches over multiple stages. Both male and female students competed, demonstrating remarkable talent and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

At the closing ceremony, the university’s president and members of the university council honored the top performers with trophies and certificates in recognition of their achievements.

in the Presence of the Dean of College Asst. Prof. Dr. Marwan Aziz Mohammed, Academic staff and students, Al-Meshwar Foundation successfully organized a seminar titled "Startup Exchange Program #3" for the College of Engineering, Petroleum Engineering Department. The seminar highlighted a strategic partnership with Knowledge University, one of the first private universities to collaborate on this initiative. The event aimed to empower future engineers by bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical industry experience. Through this collaboration, Knowledge University and Al-Meshwar Foundation will provide specialized training opportunities designed to enhance students’ professional skills and prepare them for real-world challenges in the energy sector.

The seminar brought together faculty members, industry professionals, and students to discuss the importance of entrepreneurship, innovation, and career readiness. The Startup Exchange Program serves as a platform for students to connect with startups, gain mentorship, and explore opportunities in emerging sectors. College of Engineering at Knowledge University proudly hosted a significant meeting this morning on the critical topics of climate change and water security. The event brought together key figures, including Mr. Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, Mr. Masoud Karash, Deputy Governor and Head of the Kurdistan Regional Environmental Protection Team, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Dezaye - President of Knowledge University, Members of the Board of Trustees of Knowledge University, alongside a group of university's Academic & Administrative staff and experts in water security, agriculture, and environmental studies. The gathering began with a moment of silence and the rendition of the Kurdish national anthem, "Ey Reqîb," reflecting the gravity and national importance of the issues at hand.

Throughout the meeting, the risks of climate change and water resource insecurity were emphasized as among the most serious global challenges. It was noted that the effects of these issues are expected to intensify over time, demanding urgent and comprehensive action. Knowledge University remains dedicated to fostering academic dialogue and partnerships that address the most urgent environmental challenges facing Kurdistan and the wider world.

In celebration of Earth Day, a large-scale environmental event titled the Earth Day Thinking Marathon was organized through the joint efforts of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Kurdistan Foundation, Climate KRD, and Hasar Organization. The event brought together passionate environmentalists, students, and professionals to highlight ongoing efforts and future plans aimed at protecting the environment.

Knowledge University's Department of Environmental and Petroleum Engineering took part in the event under the supervision of Dr. Khasro Kakil, a lecturer at the College of Engineering. The team actively participated in both the running competition and the subsequent environmental activities organized during the event.

Engineer Gashbin, President of Hasar Organization, addressed the participants and shared updates on major environmental projects. Notably, she highlighted the progress of the tree-planting campaign, announcing that out of the planned one million trees, 600,000 have already been successfully planted—a significant step toward combating deforestation and climate change in the region. Following these informative sessions, the Knowledge University team engaged in in-depth discussions with engineers from participating organizations and toured an environmental exhibition showcasing diverse initiatives dedicated to environmental protection and sustainability.

The participation of Knowledge University in the Earth Day Thinking Marathon reflects its ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility, community involvement, and academic contribution to sustainable development.

On Sunday, April 20, 2025, the First Innovation Expo for Engineering Projects (IEEP) was successfully held with the participation of over 150 engineering projects from various universities across the Kurdistan Region. The event took place under the supervision of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Marwan Aziz, Dean of the College of Engineering. The exhibition was attended by notable figures including Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, Dashti Haji Najmaddin, Head of the Board of Trustees, and Prof.Dr. Ahmed Dizayee, President of Knowledge University. Their presence highlighted the importance of innovation and development in the field of engineering education.

The event provided a valuable platform for engineering students to showcase their innovative ideas and projects, reflecting the high level of creativity and technical skill being fostered in universities throughout the region. At the conclusion of the exhibition, awards were presented to the top three projects, recognizing excellence in engineering design, innovation, and problem-solving.

Knowledge University Student Presents at Seminar on Environmental Governance and Plastic Pollution

 

Erbil, April 2025 – As part of the Training Workshop on Environmental Governance and Plastic Pollution organized by the German organization GIZ, Ahmad Qais, a first-stage student from the Department of Environmental Engineering at Knowledge University, delivered a presentation at the Environmental Protection and Rehabilitation Board of the Kurdistan Regional Government.

The seminar was held in the presence of academic supervisors and environmental stakeholders. Dr. Rebwar Nasser, lecturer at the College of Engineering, supervised the student’s participation, while Dr. Khasraw Kakil, also a lecturer at the College of Engineering, attended the session along with a number of students from Knowledge University’s Environmental Engineering Department.

During the presentation, Ahmad Qais shared key takeaways from the GIZ-organized workshop, focusing on the pressing issue of plastic pollution, strategies for environmental governance, and the role of education and youth engagement in addressing environmental challenges.

The event highlighted the importance of student involvement in real-world environmental efforts and showcased the productive collaboration between international organizations, governmental bodies, and academic institutions in the region.

The trip, supervised by Ms. Yara Muayad and Ms. Ala Abdullah, provided students with a firsthand look at the operations of various DIT sectors. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world applications, allowing students to gain valuable insights into government-level IT infrastructure and services.

The event, held in collaboration with several governmental and academic institutions, brought together experts and industry professionals to discuss sustainable and innovative waste management strategies in the energy sector.

The workshop featured prominent speakers, including Dr. Abbas Khaksar, Dr. Shara Kamal, Mr. Muhammad Jamal, Mr. Kewan Jalil, Mr. Muhammad Ali, Eng. Avin Qassim, and Mr. Diyar Yassin. Their insights covered the latest advancements in waste treatment, environmental sustainability, and regulatory frameworks for responsible waste disposal.
